   Nissan History

The Tokyo Nissan company that was based as DAT Motors went with the Osaka based Jitsuyo Jidosha Co. that became DAT Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Osaka until 1932. Jitsuyo Jidosha started producing a  vehicle with an enclosed cab that was called the Gorham. Later there was a vehicle that was produced as a four-wheeled version. In the 1920's, Nissan had produced  cars and trucks under the name of Lila. In the 1930's, DAT produced a smaller car, which was the first "Datson". "Datson" means "Son of DAT". Then after Nissan was in control of DAT Motors, the "o" of Datson was changed to "u". Since "son" means "loss" in Japanese, hence the name "Datsun". Nissan name was earlier as Nipponized then to Jidosha-Seizo Co., Ltd.  and the base moved to Yokohama. Nissan official name was first used in the 1930s, but in 1928, Yoshisuke Aikawa had found the company Nippon Sangyo. "Nissan" was originated during the 1930s which was being used as an abbreviation on the Tokyo stock market for Nippon Sangyo. Nissan has been famous as Nissan "Zaibatsu" which also had the  Tobata Casting and Hitachi. Nissan controlled the foundries and auto parts businesses, but Aikawa was not entered automobile manufacturing until a few years after 1930.
