When involved in an auto accident here are a few things you should ALWAYS do:
- Make sure no one is hurt and if there are immediately call 911.
- Get all the parties who are involved information. License, Registration, & Proof Of Insurance (Make Sure Its Not Expired)
- Call 911 and always make a police report (Police Reports Protect You From High Insurance Rates)
- If you get into a minor car accident and the person involved suggests they would like to pay for the damages out of pocket, still call 911. If they plan on changing there mind then there insurance company will be responsible. The person at fault doesn't need to worry about you filing a claim (since it would be in the report that they are paying out of pocket.) Let the authorities know that they are going to pay out of pocket. They will write it down in the police report. If they fail to pay out of pocket then you have there insurance company to reimburse you for the damages that is on the police report. If you don't make the police report and take there word for it that they will pay for the damages and they do change there mind and not pay, then you will be the one coming out of pocket. Police won't be able to assist after.
- If they don't have insurance call 911.
